Program Information

Spanish Studies Abroad is pleased to offer two special programs for Fall, 2021. Both of these programs will be delivered virtually.  The first program is a choice of for-credit academic programs delivered from our Seville Center for Cross-Cultural Study. These courses are designed for students who cannot travel for a study abroad program but still are looking to develop their Spanish language skills and cultural understanding of Spain through an immersive curriculum.

In October, 2021, we offer the 4-credit class, “Spanish for the Health Professions” and in November, our online offering is “Spain in the 21st century: Nationalism, Populism and Social Movements”. See below for more information or contact us for more information.

Throughout the Fall semester, we are offering a 1-credit Spanish course coupled with a virtual internship in Argentina. This is a great way to develop your professional Spanish vocabulary and polish your resume!

POLITICAL SCIENCE, HISTORY, SOCIAL STUDIES
SPAN 379VP - SPAIN IN THE 21ST CENTURY: NATIONALISM, POPULISM AND SOCIAL MOVEMENTS
The present course will focus on the political transformation of Spain and Europe in the first decades of the 21st century. The rise of nationalist and populist forces across Europe is shaping the political landscape, and the holding of electoral contests with more uncertain results than ever has sparked an interest in politics not only in the academic world but also among the overall population in democratic societies. Thus, there is a great demand for expertise in political and electoral analysis. This course emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, incorporating a range of contemporary political situations, debates and electoral strategies to help the students understand and analyze current political realities.
