Summer Terms I & II, 2019

My name is Gwyneth Schloer, and I am currently a freshman majoring in mechanical engineering, economics, and spanish (yes, three majors) at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. In my free time I enjoy hanging out with my four absolutely perfect little siblings. However, at school I find myself participating in science research clubs and going to the gym frequently. Last winter break I studied abroad in Costa Rica, which inspired me to study abroad again this summer. I’ve never been to Spain, but I’m excited to see what new adventures await me in the next eight weeks!

My name is Julia Huebner. I’m a senior at Hillsdale College where I’m majoring in Economics major and minoring in Spanish.  My hometown is Naperville, Illinois (a Southwest Chicago suburb) and I am a die-hard Cubs fan.  If I’m not watching a game, I’m spending time with family, friends, or my dog, Holly!  I’m so excited to travel to Seville this summer to not only improve my Spanish, but to truly experience the culture of Spain.  I love to take pictures wherever I go, so I’m especially looking forward  to capturing my experiences with photography while I’m abroad. While I’m nervous to be so far from home, those nerves are accompanied by even stronger feelings of excitement, and I can’t wait to board the plane and embark on this new adventure!

Summer 2019

I am a rising senior at Mercer University in Macon, GA studying Early Childhood Education & Spanish. I love traveling, teaching, and learning new languages. During my sophomore year at Mercer, I studied abroad in Chichester, England, where I studied education from an international context and traveled around the country and Europe. I absolutely fell in love with European culture and met so many amazing people who I fortunately now call some of my closest friends. Immediately afterwards, I visited South Africa and completed a Mercer on Mission trip supporting small businesses in the township, Khayelitsha. This summer, I am so excited to return to Europe to study in Sevilla, Spain, and then complete an education internship.

My name is Katelynn Fleming. I’m a sophomore/junior at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. I’m double majoring in physics and Spanish, with a minor in math. My free time is stuffed full of writing, reading, dancing, music, painting, exploring the outdoors… actually you could list the things I don’t enjoy more easily. I’ll be studying in Spain for a semester in Spring 2019, which was one of my college bucket list items. I plan to be a physicist, but where exactly that will lead me I couldn’t tell you. I’ll see where the wind blows me.

My name is Grace Farmer and I am a third-year student at the University of Virginia. I am double majoring in English and Media Studies. I am from Richmond, Virginia, which is not far from my school. When not in class or studying, my favorite thing to do is spend time with my friends. I also love to write and enjoy writing for my school newspaper, The Cavalier Daily. One of the best parts of Charlottesville is also the sweet family that I nanny. I also love to travel — I spent last summer interning for a non-profit in Uganda and it was the best thing I have ever done. I am beyond excited for my upcoming semester in Sevilla and am looking forward to what this adventure will bring.

My name is Susi and I am a sophomore at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana. I am a Sociology and Spanish double major, and hope to one day become a lawyer. This spring I will be studying abroad in Sevilla, España and learning more about its culture and history. I was born and raised in Colombia, South America but now live in Florida. Spanish is my first language, so as a kid I read my first books in Spanish, and those books were what started my love for literature. Now, as a Spanish major I have been exposed to different writers and styles which have inspired me to learn more and more about the incredible writers the Spanish world has to offer- that is why I’ll be in Sevilla. I cannot wait to learn about different cultures, incredible writers and places I saw in my Spanish and History textbooks.
